Tiruvannamalai is very famous place both spiritually and historically. The temple is very unique as it is one among Pancha Bhooda Stalam - Agni - and sung by saiva kuravargal.

There are eight lingams located at the eight directions and provides an octagonal structure to Thiruvannamalai Town. The eight lingams are:

Lord Shiva at Thiruvannamalai is worshipped in the form of fire. This is one of the Pancha Bootha sthalas in Tamilnadu and the Lord is called as Agni Lingam. In Tamil, Aruna means red and Achalam meaning Hill.

Ashta Lingams Temple is situated around the Arunachala Hill in Thiruvannamalai. Who built Arunachalam?

The holy hill has Asta Lingas in all eight directions.The Girivalam starts with Indralingam followed by Agnilingam,Yamalingam,Niruthilingam,Varunalingam,Vayulingam, Kuberalingam and Esanyalingam. Every Lingam has its own significance. The hill has to be seen everytime you see each Lingam and hill will give different appearances Shivalingam, sleeping shiva,Chandrashekhara etc., Girivalam gives you knowledge,health and wealth if it is done with devotion.
